Abstract

957,620. Switching systems for consuming devices. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. May 7, 1962 [May 15, 1961], No. 17537/61. Heading H2H. A three-phase power control device generally similar to that described in Specification 932,217 is connected to a load 7 (such as an electroplating vat) through a transformer 5 and rectifier arrangement 6. The load 7 is also connected to the supply terminals 2, 3, 4 through a transformer 8, rectifier arrangement 9 and current limiting resistor 10, this auxiliary circuit ensuring that the load current never falls to zero by providing a steady direct current which is superimposed on the pulsating direct current supplied by the control device 1, Fig. 2 (not shown). The resistor 10 may be replaced by equivalent resistors in the supply leads to transformer 8 or by capacitors or inductors in the primary or secondary side of transformer 8. The rectifier arrangement 9 may be a single phase type with smoothing means. Members 8, 9, 10 may be replaced by three resistors (one per phase) connected across the input and output terminals of the device 1, Fig. 3 (not shown).
