Abstract

926,651. Laminates. PLASTIC COMPOUNDS Ltd. Oct. 6, 1961 [Aug. 20, 1960; Oct. 6, 1960], Nos. 28902/60 and 34286/60. Class 140. An underlay of foamed plastics material, e.g. foamed polyurethane, or foam rubber, is attached to a tufted or other carpet by applying to the backing fabric of the carpet, or to a coating thereon of thermoplastic material such as polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer thereof, a layer of a plastisol such as a paste of polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer thereof, heating to gel the plastisol, applying the foamed layer, preesing and cooling. The foamed layer, if of polyurethane, may be preheated before application. One Provisional Specification refers to the use of P.V.A. or other gellable thermoplastic materials for adhering the foam layer.
