A material for use as a floor covering or wall lining consists of an optionally foamed sheet or film of thermoplastic plastic, one side of which is deeply embossed and colour printed or shaded to have the three-dimensional structure and appearance of a coarse carpet or fabric, and which is backed by textile material such as woven or knitted fabric, non-woven fabric or net fabric. The laminate may be backed by a layer of foam plastic, felt, molleton, cardboard, sound or heat insulating material, and rubber or an adhesive coating. The thermoplastic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, may be perforated and may have natural or synthetic fibres embedded in it or applied thereto, or may be partly or completely flocked.
