Abstract

1364685 Coated floor covering DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 2 Aug 1971 [1 Aug 1970] 36323/71 Heading B2E A fabric-reinforced floor covering comprises an elastomeric surface layer of natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or thermosplastic plastics material, a base layer of foamed natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or thermoplastic plastics material and, as a reinforcement between the two said layers, a glass-fibre cloth which is adhesively bonded to at least one said layer. The floor covering may be produced by continuously applying by spreading or doubling to one surface of the glass-fibre fabric material to a surface of which an adhesive material has been applied a elastomeric surface layer of natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or thermoplastic plastics material, and continuously applying to the other surface of the glassfibre fabric by spreading or doubling a layer of a foamed or foamable base layer of natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or thermoplastic plastics material, the temperature of which material is being subsequently raised to effect partial or complete vulcanisation, cross-linking or gelation of the materials, if spread, and/or foaming the base layer if the base layer is formed of foamable material. The glass-fibre cloth may first be modified by enlarging the fibre surface. Adhesive may be applied to both sides of the cloth. The thermoplastic plastics material may be a polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride. The foamable material may be an expanding agent-containing paste of a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer or a gassed polyvinyl chloride paste. The surface layer may be subjected to embossing prior to the temperature raising.
