Abstract

1284078 Washer; joint-making packing INDUSTRIAL SEALANTS Ltd 12 Nov 1969 [12 Nov 1968] 53581/68 Headings F2B and F2H A sealing washer comprises a substantially rigid annulus 10 of solid sheet material to which is bonded in superimposed relationship, a continuous resiliently flexible annulus 12 of foamed rubber or synthetic plastics material having a predominantly closed cell structure, the rigid annulus being domed with the foam on the concave side of the dome. The washer may be made by bonding a sheet of foamed plastics or rubber to a solid relatively rigid sheet using a pressure sensitive adhesive or by applying to the solid rigid sheet a foamable or partially foamed material and causing foaming in situ, then punching the washer from the composite sheet, so that the rigid annulus is domed in the direction away from the foamed sheet. The surface of the foam opposite to the rigid annulus preferably has a continuous, dense unfoamed skin.
