Abstract

1411148 Laminates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 Jan 1974 [6 Feb 1973 11 May 1973] 5717/73 Heading B5N A foam laminate comprises a layer of rigid plastics foam confined between and bonded, by in situ foaming of a mixture of foam-forming chemicals to two facing skins, at least one of said facing skins comprising a sheet of glass tissue, the outer surface of the glass tissue being optionally laminated to or coated with a material which acts as a moisture barrier. Glass tissue is defined as comprising randomly disposed glass fibres bound together with a binding agent, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or urea-formaldehyde. It is stated that during foaming, the foam expands into the glass tissue. The plastics foam material may be a polyurethane, polystyrene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, ureaformaldehyde resin, phenol-formaldehyde resin, an epoxy resin or a polyisocyanurate. The moisture barrier material may be bitumen, polyethylene, polypropylene or other synthetic resin and may be applied to the glass tissue by extrusion coating. The other layer may be strippable.
