Abstract

1357644 Sealing strip CHEMIEFAC GmbH 26 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 40077/71 Heading B5N A sealing strip is made by bringing a layer of a deformable rubber or plastics material into contact with one face of a strip of adhesiveimpregnated foam material, the layer of rubber or plastics material having substantially the same width as the strip of foam material and then compressing the resultant composite so that the layer of rubber or plastics material is curved around the resultant compressed foam material so that up to one-half of the compressed foam is enclosed by the curved layer. In an embodiment a sealing strip is produced from three strips of adhesive-impregnated foam, and a central strip 3 provided with a layer of plastics material 6 and two side strips 4 each of which is of a lower height than centre strip 3. These are compressed together so that the layer 6 is curved around a portion of the compressed material 5 formed from the strips 3 and 4. The resultant compressed sealing strips may be enclosed in a vacuum tank of a metal or plastics foam to keep it in the compressed condition, vacuum packed in a suitable tin foil or held in the compressed state by rigid plates which may be disengaged where it is desired to insert the centre strip into a joint. The foam material may be of an open-celled foam of natural rubber or a polyurethane foam. The adhesive used to impregnate the foam may be asphalt or bitumen, waxes or plastics.
