925,436. Valves. EWERS & MIESNER HARTGUSSWERK UND MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Nov. 7, 1961 [Nov. 8, 1960], No. 39906/61. Class 135. A valve for controlling the flow of air into or out of a shelter, which is closed in the event of an explosion, comprises a housing 1 having inlet and outlet ducts 2 or 3 formed with valve seats 10, 11 respectively. Valve closure members 8 and 9 are mounted on the ends of a bell-crank lever 7 pivoted on a shaft 6. The valve members are normally in the position shown when air flows through the valve but in the event of an explosion, the rush of air into the housing acts on the valves to cause closure of one of the valves and the suction created by the subsequent outflow causes the valves to rock and open the one valve and close the other valve. The valve members are provided with studs 18, 19 one of which carries a weight 20, dependent on the direction of normal flow through the housing such that, as shown, with no flow the valve 8 would be closed and normal flow causes the valves to assume the position shown. The valves may be actuated manually from outside by rotating shaft 6 which causes an arm 12 to close one or other of the valves. This closure may be locked. Alternatively, a second shaft may be provided for the manual actuation.
