Abstract

1311175 Ventilators H BAUS 2 Sept 1970 [3 Sept 1969] 42024/70 Heading F4V A ventilator for mounting in a wall opening comprises a casing having an inlet aperture and an outlet aperture and a pivotably mounted flap which is normally held in a position closing one of the apertures by a releasable retaining device actuated by electrical means supplied with current from the same source as the building air conditioning plant. In the form shown, the retaining device consists of a piston 10 connected to the flap 15 and slidable in a fixed cylinder 8 which is fed with compressed air through a pipe 17 by a pump. The pump is connected to the same electricity supply as the air conditioning plant and in the event of plant breakdown the compressed air flow is ceased and the flap opened by a spring 18. In another embodiment, the retaining device consists of an electronagnet and, if the material of the flap is non- magnetic, an armature is secured to the flap. The flap may open by gravity, optionally with the assistance of a spring. A filter may be provided in the casing. The casing is made of a light metal alloy. The flap 15 may be provided with a bolt to effect permanent closure of the corresponding aperture, if required.
