Abstract
1478343 Air outlet devices from air distribution systems CAPE AIR CONDITIONING (PTY) Ltd 10 June 1974 [11 July 1973] 25629/74 Heading F4V A device in the top corner of a room can discharge air (i) downwardly along a wall and window and (ii) horizontally along the ceiling. As shown in Fig. 1, for heating a room, heated air is supplied through a pipe 18 to a housing 12 and discharged downwardly as indicated at 30 through an outlet 20. As shown in Fig. 2, for cooling the room an increased supply of air (which now is unheated or has been cooled) is supplied to the housing. This increased supply pivots a biased plate 26 to the position indicated in Fig. 2 and the air discharges both horizontally as indicated at 34 through an outlet 22 and also downwardly through outlet 20. Fig. 3 shows a different air discharge device. Air supplied through a pipe 62 to a housing 38 can be discharged downwardly through a first outlet 46 and diffuser 50 and can be discharged horizontally through a second outlet 48 and diffuser 52. Outlet 46 is controlled by a pivoted closure member 54 operated by a rod 56 and bellows 60. Outlet 48 is controlled by a closure member 68 which is gravity biased. The closure member 68 has a striker arm 72 which can be acted on by a plunger rod 74 of a thermostatically controlled actuator 76. When the room becomes too cold, the actuator 76 causes its rod to close the member 68 against the pressure of air issuing from the opening 48. The rod 74 carries an arm 78 which operates a microswitch 80 to switch on an electric heater 64 in the air intake pipe 62. The heated air flowing through the pipe causes the bellows. to expand and open the closure member 54. Fig. 7, (not shown) illustrates supply of air to devices (114) of the kind shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The devices are supplied from volume control units (112) each of which contains a temperature control means. Air supply to the units (112) is from high pressure shafts (108) via expander units (110). The shafts (108) are in a lift shaft (106). Fig. 8 (not shown) illustrates supply of air to devices (130) of the kind illustrated in Fig. 3. The supply is from a central main supply duct (120) via a volume regulator (124) controlled by a static pressure regulator (126) so as to maintain a constant pressure in the branch duct (122).
