Abstract

548,839. Fluid-actuated valves. PEEBLES, W. C., and PEEBLES & CO., Ltd. June 14, 1941, No. 7568. [Class 135] An automatic gas valve particularly adapted for rationing supplies in a gas distributing system comprise's a single or double-beat valve member opened against a load by outlet pressure acting on a diaphragm or liquid-sealed bell and in which means are provided for increasing the load, step-by-step as the valve moves towards its open position. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the double-beat valve member 4 co-operates with seats held together by pillars 12 and is actuated by outlet pressure in the conduit 11 acting on a diaphragm 13 secured to the valve spindle 1. The spindle 1 is coupled to a weighted counterbalance lever 15 and is fitted with a series of adjustable collars 2 adapted to lift loading weights 3 off supporting brackets 5 as the valve opens. In a modification the free end of the counterbalance lifts additional weights as the valve moves towards its closed position. The casing may be fitted with an adjustable screw stop to limit the maximum opening. A small bleed passage may be provided in the partition 9 so that once closed the valve will not reopen until all the gas cocks connected to the outlet conduit are closed. Alternatively means may be provided to open the valve by hand.
