[Also in Group XIII] In a valve operated or carried by a lever 11, the latter extends outside the valve body and carries a weight or a float at its end, and the valve closure member 12 is held in the closed and/or open positions by permanent magnet means. The valve shown in Fig. 2 is for controlling the flow of fluent material, and the lever 11 carries an armature 10 which co-operates with a magnet 9 mounted on a flexible arm 13 extending from the valve casing. In the steam trap shown in Fig. 3, the valve 12 and a float 14 are connected by the arm 11, and the float consists of ferromagnetic material co-operating with magnets 17 which tend to hold the float in positions corresponding to the open and closed positions of the valve. The positions of the magnets and the ferromagnetic material may be interchanged. A float-actuated cistern valve is also described.
