Abstract
625,667. Electrically and magneticallyoperated valves. DIXON, O. G., RONNEBECK, H. R., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 13, 1946, No. 4491. [Class 135] A magnetically-actuated rotary disc valve for controlling the flow of fluids in, e.g. a distilling plant, as described in Specification 578,309, [Group XII], comprises a glass tube 13, Fig. 6, of the drawings accompanying the Provisional Specification, housing a fixed valve member 4 provided with a ported disc 1, Fig. 2, which coacts with a rotatable ported disc 5, Fig. 4, formed on a valve member 7. The valve member 7 has secured thereto a bar magnet 8 which co-operates with a ring magnet 16, housed in a non-magnetic case 14 encircling the tube, and is arranged to be rotated by a rack 15 secured to the ring magnet and a pinion 19 secured to an operating spindle 18 to rotate the disc 5 relatively to the disc 1 to open or close the ports therethrough. In alternative constructions, the bar magnet 8 may be replaced by a soft iron armature or the movable valve member made of magnetic material. The ring magnet may be a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. Specification 564,771 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
