Abstract
1,236,356. Magnetic switches. M. BEKEDAM. 14 Jan., 1970, No. 1884/70. Heading H1N. The operating mechanism of a float operated switch has an axially movable stem G on which is mounted a pair of spaced disc magnets H, J polarized in the same direction and each with opposite faces of opposite polarity and a pivoted magnet P is mounted for movement between stops R, T so as to be between the planes of the discs H, and so that the magnet P is always biased to engage one or other of the stops by the magnetic fields of the magnets. The magnet P is mounted on a counterbalanced frame L pivoted at 22 on an adjustable platform Q and the frame L may carry a mercury-switch M or operate a microswitch (not shown). A spring 14 may compensate for the weight of the stem G and float K. The stops R and T are adjustable and are also magnetic so as to retain the magnet P and provide snap-action. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown) the stops are non-magnetic and a further central disc magnet is mounted on the stem G between the other two and is polarized in the opposite direction to the other disc magnets.
