Abstract

925,187. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 27, 1959 [July 30, 1958], No. 24615/58. Class 38 (2). In a potted transformer, part of which may attain a potential high enough to cause a corona discharge, a screen (or screens) 15 (Fig. 1) is wholly or partly embedded in the potting resin and arranged to reduce the tendency for the corona discharge to occur, the screen being of synthetic resin through which is distributed fully divided conducting material such as aluminium or graphite. The screen 15 may be earthed by connecting it through a copper gauze screen to an earthing terminal 16 and may have curved corners. The screen 15, bobbin assembly 22 and terminals 25 are arranged in a mould 21 and potted before a closed core formed of two laminated U-shaped members is added. Some details are given of the materials and method which may be used in making the screen are given. The Provisional Specification describes another arrangement which is described and claimed in Specification 925,188. Specification 845,780 also is referred to.
