Abstract

In the manufacture of an exterior casing for an electric lamp, part 2 of a glass tube 1 is heated, drawn out to form a narrow conduit 3, cooled and the conduit cut to give a casing comprising a narrow conduit 3a and an enlargement 4, 6. Preferably the tube 1 is centrally heated to give a second casing 3b, 5, 7. The lamp is then completed by the insertion of a filament coupled to an electrode and foot through the enlargement, welding the outer end of the conduit to the filament, and finally evacuating and sealing the lamp as in known processes.
