923,683. Tip-wagons. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. Dec. 23, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 43788/59. Class 103(4). A tippable mini car comprises a car box 1, Figs. 2 and 3 pivotally mounted at 3 on a chassis 2, a discharge side wall 4 suspended in pendulum fashion, a roller 8 carried by an arm 7, which may be pivotally mounted on the box so as to adopt the vertical position when the car is not being tipped, which roller is adapted to engage a ramp at the side of the rail track and thus tip the box, and locking means 9, 10 to retain the wall 4 in its closed position until the box has been tipped through a predetermined angle. The wall is also locked in its open position. The locking means comprises a slotted crank arm 9, pivoted at 11 to the box and having a reararm extension 9<SP>1</SP>, and a crank rod 10 pivotally connected in the slot and to the wall 4. In the closed and open positions of the wall 4 the rod has passed through its dead centre position relative to the arm 9. When the roller 8 starts to tip the box 1 Fig. 2, the linkage 9, 10 moves therewith until the extension 91 contacts an unlocking stop 13 on a chassis member 14. Thereafter the arm 9 is rotated clockwise through dead centre and the wall 4 opens under the pressure of the load until the arm reaches a position, again beyond dead centre, against a locking stop 12 on the box as shown in Fig. 3. When the box is empty it commences to return to its normal position under gravity with the wall locked in its open position. The arm 9 Fig. 3, then engages the stop 13, from above, to swing the linkage through about 180 degrees to allow the wall to close and until the extension 9<SP>1</SP> abuts a locking stop 15 on the member 14 and again moves the arm 9 through its dead centre position. The wall 4 need not be lockable by linkage in its open position and in this case a resilient bolt only may ensure that the wall is lockable in its closed position. Instead of a roller 8, the box may have a runway engageable with a roller on the end of a piston rod movable in a cylinder pivoted at a position by the side of the track, as described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
