Class 103(4) In a tipping truck having freely suspended side walls secured in closed position by throw-over hooks, each hook carries a detent in the form of a cranked lever so as to be rotatable thereon, an arm of which is upwardly directed and engages, when the hook is in engagement with the side wall, under a fixed stop on the truck body, so that any releasing motion of the hook is prevented. The hook 1, which at one end is pivoted at 2 to the truck body and at the other end is hooked to engage a catch on the hinged side wall, carries a pivoted detent 3, of which the vertical arm bears against a fixed stop 4 and the horizontal arm carries a curved bearing piece 3<1>, formed with a slot 9 adapted to receive, in one position, a peg 8 attached to a slide bar 7, the peg being in constant engagement with a slotted arm of a cranked lever 11. When the truck tips, with the side wall closed, the piece 3<1> is brought into contact with a fixed abutment 6 and rocked into the position shown by dotted lines, clear of the stop 4. The upper surface of the piece 3<1> engages the hook and raises it clear of the catch on the side wall so that a peg 10 on the hook causes the lever 211 to rock clockwise, thus moving the slide bar 7 to the left to initiate opening movement of the side wall. The mechanism is arranged so that the peg 8 passes through the slot 9 in the piece 3<1> and rests on the upper surface thereof, thus holding the hook in its raised position in readiness to lock the side flap when the truck is returned to its normal position.
