Abstract

1494729 Twistlock E C COLE 7 Oct 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 46624/73 Heading E2B A releasable container-retaining device comprises a casing 10 and a bolt 26 having a vertical shank 28 mounted for rotation and longitudinal movement relative to the casing and has a head 27 at its upper end with a pair of diametrically opposed radial projections, the bolt being movable longitudinally between withdrawn and release positions and rotatable from its release position to a retaining position, the device also having resilient means e.g. spring 32 which, when the bolt is in the retaining position, bias the bolt toward a locking position. As shown in Fig. 1, the casing has base 13, walls 14, 15, 17, top 18 diverging flanges 16 and mounting plate 19 closing the fourth side. A slot 21 has vertical parts 22, 23 connected at their upper ends by horizontal part 24. Bolt 26 has a head 27 and shank 28 pivoted at 29 to yoke 30 which is connected to control rod 25 projecting through slot 21. A roller 31 fixed to the other end of yoke 30 bears on base 13. A helical compression spring 32 bears against yoke 30 and the underside of top 18. The device may be secured to a lorry chassis and receives a socket 33 secured to a demountable body e.g. a freight container and having bars 34 to engage head 27.
