Abstract

1282253 Door closer and check; cam arrangement VEREINIGTE BAUBESCHLAGFABRIKEN GRETSCH & CO GmbH 18 Jan 1971 [6 March 1970] 2321/71 Heading E2M In a door closer having a closer spring 20 and a spring-loaded damping piston 23, each acting on a respective cam, the damping piston's cam 3 is so arranged that, during rotation of the door from 90‹ to 75‹ open, the piston moves through at least 1/3 of its stroke and the effective lever arm 30 of the damping force (the length of a perpendicular from the force vector to the pivot axis 17 of the door) when the door is between 75‹ and 90‹ open is greater than between 60‹ and 30‹ open. The cam 3 may be symmetrical, each side having three regions 10, 11, 12 constructed as circular arcs, the region 10 having a tangential zone merging into a tip 13 and a point 14 corresponding to the 75‹ open position. The damping piston rod 8 acts on a lever 6 pivoted at 5 and carrying a roller 4 co-operating with the cam 3. Details are given of the relative dimensions of the cam 3, lever 6 and roller 4 and the variation with the door angle of the piston stroke and the effective lever arm 30. (For Figure see next page)
