A ground anchor comprises first and second resistance plates 22, 23 pivotally interconnected by a rod 31 welded to plate 22 passing through connecting plates 31 which are welded to plate 23, a rotary plate 38 pivoted to the plate 23 by a similar rod 39, and a regulating plate 24 pivoted at one end at 48 to a bracket 47 mounted on the plate 22, and pivoted intermediate its ends at 51 to a guy plate 25 and a slotted connecting rod 26 which is also pivoted to the rod 39 of the rotary plate. The opposite end of the regulating plate has catch pawls 49 which engage the edge of the rotary plate when the anchor is in position to be driven into the ground by driving rod 50 which engages a screw threaded rod welded in a notch on the rotary plate 46 and the end of the regulating plate. Relative pivotal movement in clockwise direction of the plates 22, 23 and 38 is limited by stop plates 32 and 41 having extended arms 35 and 43 respectively, and the limited pivotal movement in the clockwise direction allowed by the shorter arms 36 is prevented by the rod 50 preventing movement of the regulating plate. When the anchor has been driven to almost its final position the driving rod is partially unscrewed and on further driving in the regulating plate can pivot and therefore the first and second resistance plates can pivot relative to one another and the rotary plate and they now follow an arcuate path until they are both substantially at right angles to the direction of the guy plate. In modifications additional resistance plates are included between the first and second plates. In a second embodiment the guy rod passes through a sleeve on the guy plate and has limited sliding movement therein, and the end thereof is screw threaded to engage a screw threaded recess on the rotary plate to prevent pivotal movement in the early stages of driving.
