A double-chain scraper conveyer is driven by an arrangement comprising a pair of motor and gear-box assemblies 2, 3 which are flangedon to opposite sides of the conveyer frame 1, chain wheels 6, 7 secured by bolts 5 to thickened portions 4a of the output shafts 4 of the assemblies 2, 3, and a drum 8, which is fitted between the wheels 6, 7 and consists of radially-assembled shell members which are drivingly connected to the wheels by dog clutch or toothed coupling elements 9.
