Abstract

922,914. Arresting motion of yarn packages. LEESONA CORPORATION. March 7, 1961 [April 18, 1960], No. 8359/61. Class 120 (2). A machine for winding packages 10 includes an elongated grooved plate 34 against which the package 10 can be pressed to stop its rotary motion if there is a breakage or termination of the yarn supply. The grooves are set at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the plate such that the helix of the twisted fibres is at an angle thereto, preferably 90 degrees, to prevent the strand from untwisting during the braking action against the plate 34. Fig. 8 shows a yarn strand Y<SP>1</SP> contacting a land 60 of the grooved plate 34, the helix of the twisted fibres being at an angle of about 50 degrees to the land 60. When the rotation of the package 10 has ceased it is pressed against a reverse roll 28 that rotates the package in an unwinding direction to allow a suction nozzle 30 to lift the yarn end away from the surface of the package. This yarn end can then be knotted to a fresh supply or the end from which it parted. Specification 704,931 is referred to.
