Abstract

1320543 Reinforcing hoses INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 26 June 1970 [4 July 1969] 31246/70 Heading F2P A machine for covering a flexible hose with at least a pair of layers of reinforcing threads helically wound in opposite directions, is constituted by at least a pair of winding units 1, 1<SP>1</SP> operated in opposition by a single motor 2 and aligned along the same axis. Each winding unit comprises a rotatable hollow shaft 3, through which the hose is passed; at least one group of closed containers 12 each enclosing a package of thread 15 and mounted in a star-like arrangement on respective discs 10 with their axes inclined from 10 to 20 degrees with respect to the shaft axis; a thread guide ring 17 keyed to the shaft in the vicinity of one end thereof for guiding all the threads on to the hose; a distributing head 19 to lay the threads on to the hose and braking means 24 for each thread and acting on the thread during its travel from its respective container to the guide ring. As shown, each winding unit is composed of three groups of containers each group consisting of six containers. The braking means 24 for the threads from one group of containers are secured to the disc 10 which precedes that group or to the guide ring 17 and each comprises (Fig. 3) a support 25 fast to the shaft 3 of the machine, a stem 26 with a hole or slit 27, and two discs 28 29 free to slide along a portion of stem 26 in the vicinity of hole 27 against the action of spring 30. The thread passes between the discs 28, 29 and through hole 27 and in use when the machine is rotating only slowly tension is controlled by the pressure between the discs and when the machine is operating at high rotational speeds, centrifugal force acts on the discs to compress the spring 30 so increasing the tensioning of the thread.
