Abstract
A winding machine of the kind in which the take-up spool is brought into contact with a braking roller when the yarn being wound breaks or becomes exhausted, is characterized in that the braking roller is provided with a friction clutch, the frictional force of which produces a brake moment smaller than that resulting from the surface friction between the bobbin and the said roller. On exhaustion or breakage of yarn, a feeler (5), Fig. 1 (not shown) causes contacts (6, 7) to close and energize motor (9) to turn cam (12) through one revolution. The resulting movement of the cam follower (13a) causes arms (13b) and (15) to move the wound package (4) first from its driving roll (3) on to a roller (16) braked by one or more friction clutches, and secondly on to a reverse rotation roller (18). Regulating clutch strength in accordance with package diameter. The roller (16) may be a hollow tube (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), braked at its ends by abutments (22, 23) biased against the tube (20) by a spring (24). As the package (4) increases in diameteer it pivots arm (15) upwardly to move a flexible thrust element (26a) through a tube 26 to rock a double armed lever (28a, 28b) in a manner increasing the compressive force in the spring (24). Thus, as the package (4) increases in diameter, the friction clutches increase their braking effect.
