922,081. Knitting-machines. TRICO HOLDINGS Ltd. Aug. 14, 1961 [Sept. 12, 1960], No. 29316/61. Class 74 (2). A cast-on device for a circular knitting-machine comprises a flexible foundation having members distributed around its periphery, the members being adapted to embrace the knitting needle as the latter are raised and to engage and hold the first thread of wool passed between each needle. The device, which may be of polythene, comprises radial arms 3 supporting T-shaped members 5 which are interdigitated with the needles when the device is located at the upper end of the needle cylinder. After the first pass of wool thread 14 has been completed a weight is attached to the central hole 8 of the flexible device to cause the members 5 to withdraw out of registry with the needles and allow the loops of the thread 17 of the second course to be drawn through loops of the first thread 14. As knitting proceeds the weight causes the device to be drawn, with the knitting, through the bore 10 of the cylinder. It is stated that the members 5 may be replaced by thread loops through which the corresponding needle passes.
