Abstract

921,658. Digital-data storage apparatus. AMPEX CORPORATION. June 22, 1960 [July 20, 1959], No. 19275/62. Divided out of 909,217. Class 106 (1). A magnetic reproducing head for a foraminated record member as in Specification 909,217, comprises means for deflecting a cathode beam in accordance with remanent magnetism in the record member, and means for collecting said beam and forming an output signal in accordance with said remanent magnetism. The head includes an evacuated envelope 32 containing core members 37, 38 forming a gap 34 through which the electron beam 41 passes on its way to an electrode 47. The record member 11 is passed, externally of the envelope 32, between the core member 38 and an external core member 39. Remanent magnetism in the record member 11 causes deflection of the cathode beam 41 to produce a signal on collector electrodes 44, 46. Two further embodiments are described with reference to Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown).
