Abstract

771,550. Electron beam apparatus. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. March 16, 1955 [March 16, 1954], No. 7697/55. Class 39(1). The auxiliary electrodes of the beam valve described in Specification 709,728 are designed as serrated pole-pieces of the magnetic control system. The serrations of the pole-pieces 4, 5 are disposed between the rod-shaped anode 3 and cathode 1, the focussing electrode 2, which is also rod-shaped, being at cathode potential or lower. The electrodes 4, 5 are of mumetal and bear tightly against the wall of the tube, forming a relatively small non-magnetic gap between the electrodes 4, 5 and the head-pieces 7, 8 of a pick-up sensitive to a sound recording medium 9. Figs. 4, 5 show auxiliary electrodes 12, 13 as solid blocks of ferromagnetic material with three contact pins projecting through the envelope from each block and adapted to engage the sockets of two corresponding magnetic yokes 14, 15 in an external magnetic circuit. The other projecting pins connect to the anode and filament contacts 16, 17, 18.
