Abstract

890,777. Electrostatic recording; television. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Dec. 21, 1960 [Dec. 22, 1959], No. 43887/60. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XL (a)] A television signal is recorded as transverse tracks of electrostatic charge on a tape 12 by directing an electron beam 4, modulated by the input signal 2 at a linear storage electrode 5 of mesh form, one traverse of the beam corresponding to one line of the picture. A secondary cathode 6 produces a beam which is modulated by the stored pattern on the mesh 5, accelerated by a spiral 9 and focused by a lens 10, via a Lenard window 11 on to the tape. The primary recording 2, 4, 5 has the time-resolution required by the picture signal, while the image of the pattern on the mesh 5 is transferred relatively slowly to the tape, to produce a workably intense charge pattern on it, the time available being the transit time of a line of the picture. The tape may alternatively be led through suitable traps and exposed in vacuo, while in a further embodiment, the window 11 may be replaced by a fluorescent screen which builds up a charge pattern on the tape by irradiation.
