Abstract
1,174,032. Image pick-up tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 13 Feb., 1968 [24 Feb., 1967; 29 May, 1967; 30 May, 1967; 25 July, 1967], No. 7144/68. Heading HID. An image pick-up tube employs a photoconductive target and a high velocity scanning beam, the beam 11 passing through a lowdensity porous photo-conductive film 9 in which transmission secondary electron multiplication (TSEM) takes place and the emerging beam 12 passing on to a signal electrode 3. Suitable target material is CdS, CdSe or Sb 2 S 3 and a suitable thickness is 20-40Á. The metal film 8 may be replaced by a metal mesh with the photoconductive material packing (Fig. 3b), or not packing (Fig. 3a), the holes of the mesh. The photoconductive material is deposited from either side of the mesh on to a collodion film set to one side of the mesh. The collodion film is then burned out in oxygen. To increase the gain of the target photoconductive material may be combined with particularly suitable TSEM material such as KCl either in a mixed layer (Fig. 5), or in a number of sandwiched layers (Fig. 6).
