An impact crusher comprises a conical rotor 12 provided with throwing arms 18, a plurality of individually adjustable impact plates 13 and a hopper 14 containing compartments 22, material of different size fractions being supplied to the compartments 22 and hence to the rotor by means of a feeding device 23 comprising a hopper 24 containing vibrating screens 25 of diminishing mesh from the uppermost downwardly and shoots 27, the arrangement being such that coarser particles in the material are supplied to the portions of the arms 18 travelling at greater linear velocities.
