Abstract

1,161,872. Charging shaft furnaces. STEETLEY DOLOMA (PROCESSING) Ltd. 23 Aug., 1966 [23 Aug., 1965], No. 36122/65. Heading F4B. The top of a shaft KL 1 is divided into an inner shoot 6 and one or more outer shoots 7 surrounding the shoot 6, by an elliptical steel duct 4. A feed hopper 8 supplies granular feed material to a double deck screen 9, from which large material passes via duct 10 to the inner shoot 6, and small material to the outer shoots 7 via ducts 11, such that in operation, the guide surfaces of all the said charging means, that is the surfaces of the charging means against which or on which the granular materials move whilst they are being charged to the furnace, remain stationary relative to each other during charging of the furnace. An inverted steel cone can be positioned below the inner shoot 6 and adjusted to give suitable material distribution (Fig. 3). In other embodiments (Figs. 5 and 6) double cones can be used.
