Abstract

1,193,529. Cooling granular &c. materials. WALTHER & CIE A.G. 14 Oct., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967 (2); 26 Jan., 1968; 12 Sept., 1968], No. 48611/68. Heading F4B. Apparatus for cooling cement clinker, dolomite or magnesite discharged from a rotary furnace 3 comprises a shaft 5, crushing rollers 6, a tuyere 7 supplying cooling air below the rollers and a rotary pocketed drum 8 for discharging cooled material. A series of radiation transmitters and receivers may be spaced across the cooler near the charge level controlling the speed of individual motors of the rollers according to the contour of the charge (Figs. 2 and 3). A modified apparatus (Fig. 4) has a set of coarser crushing rollers above the rollers 6 and baffles of triangular cross-section above these rollers. Another modification (Fig. 5) has inspection openings in the shaft whereby percussive tools on explosive cartridges may be introduced to smash large lumps of material. Cooling air may also be introduced above the rollers through tuyeres in the shaft shell or through inner conduits with mushroom cowls (Figs. 7-9).
