793,614. Granulating molten materials. UNIVERSAL ATLAS CEMENT CO. Jan. 27, 1955 [Dec. 2, 1954], No. 8881/57. Divided out of 793,613 [Group XII]. Class 59 [Also in Group XXX A water-cooled screw conveyer 50 granulates molten material e.g. calcium aluminate cement, discharged through a taphole 13 in a rotary kiln 10. The 'conveyer box 51 contains a rounded member 54 surrounded by a water jacket 55, cooling water being introduced at 56, preferably only during discharge of the molten material, and discharging over the screw 50 through two staggered series of spray holes 57 in the member 54. The top of the box 51 carries a splash guard 58 to permit high-speed operation of the screw 50. The granulated material is pushed in to a pit 59.
