Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain hard slag granules easily and stably by slowly cooling molten slag discharged from a blast furnace, a converter, an electric furnace or the like while dropping the slag in the form of a film to uniformly cool the whole slag followed by rapid cooling. CONSTITUTION:Slag S discharged from a blast furnace, a converter or the like accumulates in slag box 2 through slag spout 1 and falls through slits 4 in the form of film S1. Falling film S1 falls onto rotary drum 6 through slag receiver 5 and is rapidly cooled with a water film formed on the outside of drum 6, whereby film S1 is finely granulated and scattered into cooling chamber 10 as slag granules 9. Granules 9 are cooled with cooling water in pass 12, dropped into hopper part 11, and carried out of the chamber with chain conveyor 13.
