[Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A well swab comprises a tubular member 113 mounted on a mandrel M, and rubber discs D spaced longitudinally of the member, the discs having a peripheral section of a diameter slightly less than that of the well conduit T and an annular intermediate section 115b (Fig. 4) of greater resilience than that of the peripheral section. Fig. 4 shows a disc during running in of the swab, Fig. 6 shows the disc during retrieval of the swab and the lifting of the well fluid above the swab, and Fig. 7 shows the disc when the swab is being retrieved but the volume of well fluid above the swab is too great to be lifted. Integral discs are moulded on a member to form a swab rubber S, and two rubbers are mounted on the mandrel. During retrieval of the swab a rubber part 119 of the lower rubber engages the swab nose 106 to prevent well fluid passing down through channels 112 in the mandrel.
