Abstract

755,118. Securing nuts; circlips. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Jan. 27, 1955 [Feb. 13, 1954], No. 4289/54. Classes 89(1) and 89.(2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A coupling-nut 13 having an inwardlyextending annular lip 14 is removably held on a nipple 11 by outwardly-sprung means, e.g. a split, resilient ring 16, engaging an annular groove 12 in the nipple and the lip 14. As shown, the groove 12 and ring 16 are rectangular in cross-section, and the nut has a number of radially-extending holes 15. A combination tool comprising four pegs is inserted into diametrically-opposed holes 15 to compress the ring 16 into the groove 12 to allow removal of the nut from the nipple. In modifications, the sprung'means comprises (a) two or more partannular portions forced outwardly by a spring in the base of the groove 12, and (b) a number of pivoted latch-members in the groove 12 urged 'outwardly by resilient means in the groove.
