Abstract

871,060. Rubber springs. FAIREY CO. Ltd. Sept. 2, 1959 [Sept. 8, 1958], No. 28790/58. Class 108(3)..[Also in Group XXXIII] A double acting rubber spring used in an aircraft undercarriage (see Group XXXIII) comprises a casing 30 having a conical end wall 31 and an end member 32 having a conical wall 33 and a lug 34, the casing and end member being secured together by a screwthreaded flanged ring 35. The walls 31, 33 afford bearings for a slidable rod 36 with a lug 48. A first annular disc 44 is adapted to abut shoulders 38 on the casing and 41 on the rod, and a second annular disc 44 is adapted to abut outer and inner packing rings 40 and 43. Between the discs are two rubber annuli 45 separated by a distance piece 47. Alternatively sets of circumferentfally spaced rubber blocks may replace the annuli 45. When compressive or tensile forces are applied between lugs 34 and 48, one of discs 44 is held stationary relative to the casing, the other disc being urged towards the one disc, compressing the rubber.
