Abstract

948,459. Securing and sealing filter elements. AEROX Ltd. Sept. 4, 1961 [Sept. 8, 1960], No. 30932/60. Heading B1D. [Also in Division F2] A tubular filter element 1, e.g. of ceramic, passing through a supporting diaphragm plate 4, Fig. 2, is sealed to, and axially located in opposite directions relative to the plate by means of two spaced resilient sealing rings 5, 6 surrounding the element and engaging surfaces thereon which are inclined or face inwards towards the plate 4. The ring 6 is arranged in an annular groove 7 and the ring 5 is mounted on the tapered neck portion 2 of the element so that it is urged under its own resilience against the plate 4. The aperture 3 in the plate is cylindrical or it may be tapered to constitute a seat for the portion 2. In a modification, Fig. 3, the rings are arranged on oppositely tapered adjoining surfaces 10, 12 of the portion 2. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the portion 2 is cylindrical and the rings are located in annular grooves 14, 15; alternatively, they may grip a plain cylindrical surface of the portion 2. Various shapes of sealing rings (see Division F2) are described.
