Abstract

1,118,080. Well swabs. OIL STATES RUBBER CO. May 19, 1967 [Aug. 1, 1966], No. 23422/67. Heading F1A. A well swab cup comprises a metal base member 14 and wire reinforcing members 20 with resilient material 1 moulded around them, an annular cup-shaped reinforcing member 30 of metal being positioned within the resilient material, as shown, to prevent downward and outward flow of the resilient material between wires 20 and base 14 when the swab cup is subjected to high fluid-pressure. Wires 20 are pivotably attached to base 14 through apertures in a flange 18. The swab cup is slidably mounted on a mandrel 10. On the downward stroke, swab cup shoulder 5 abuts mandrel shoulder 13 and liquid flows upwardly through mandrel flutes 11. On the upward stroke, base 14 sealingly abuts mandrel shoulder 15 and the swab cup is forced outwardly to engage the pipe walls P by the fluid-pressure.
