Abstract

1,087,616. Injection moulding sealing rings. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. March 22, 1965 [April 17, 1964], No. 12030/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A sealing ring comprising a U-section metal ring 11 having, in its free state, inwardly radially diverging legs 14, 16 and a silicone rubber core 18 having bead portions contiguous with and extending radially inwardly of the ends of the legs (see also Division F2), is formed in a die comprising an upper member 44 pivotally mounted on a lower member 34 and a plug 40 slidable in a bore 38 in the member 34 and having passages 58 therein. The ring after cleaning and coating with an adhesive suitable for bonding is compressed in a recess 36 in the member 34 and rubber is forced through passages 58 by a ram 52, the die being heated to approximately 320‹ F. during moulding.
