782,225. Piston packing. WEBBER, J. C. Aug. 3, 1955, No. 22304/55. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A well swab packing 25 comprises a number of axially-spaced inverted frusto-conical rings 28 having a cylindrical peripheral surface of substantially the same diameter as the bore of the well conductor C, each ring, in operation, being deformable downwards under a predetermined liquid load, Fig. 2, so that only its upper peripheral edge portion 29 makes sealing contact with the conductor wall and being further deformable downwards, when the predetermined load is exceeded, Fig. 3, to permit escape of liquid. The rings 28 are of rubber, synthetic rubber or like resilient material and are integral with a sleeve 26 preferably moulded to a re-inforcing tube 27 slidable on a hollow mandrel 10 having a ball valve 16 at its upper end. The rings may each be provided at their upper peripheral edge with an axial flange or bead that sealingly engages the conductor wall when the ring is in its operative downwardly-deformed position.
