Abstract

917,644. Sliding clasp fasteners. GIRON, F. S., GIRON, J. S., and GIRON, F. S. May 16, 1960 [May 16, 1959], No. 17125/60. Class 44. In a sliding clasp fastener having an element, controlled by the tab for preventing movement of the clasp until the tab is raised, releasable locking means are provided between the tab and the clasp for locking the tab in its out-ofuse, or lowered, position. The fastener shown has a clasp 1, a tab 2 and an element 3 which is an integral part of the tab and holds the clasp against movement when the tab 2 is in its out-of-use position as shown, the tab being looped through an eye in a raised portion 4 of the clasp. A key-operated lock 5 on the tab 2 has a tongue 6 movable by the key between the position shown in which it engages a recess 4<SP>1</SP> in the portion 4 and a position in which it is withdrawn clear of the recess. When engaged in the recess 4<SP>1</SP> the tongue 6 locks the tab 2 to thus positively lock the fastener. In an alternative embodiment the locking means consists of a tongue which is slidably or pivotally mounted on the tab 2 so as to be movable into a position in which it may be fixed to the clasp 1 by the hasp of a padlock passing through holes therein.
