Abstract

916,915. Electric lighting fittings. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec.18, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 43099/59. Classes 75 (3) and 75 (4). Alighting fitting for fluorescent lamps comprises a tubular support each end of which is closed by the body of a lampholder, and a mounting plate for the ancillary electrical apparatus which is shorter than the tubular support and is secured to a lug mounted transversely in recesses in the support and secured also to the body of one lampholder. In the form shown, the support 1, Fig. 1, has internal ribs 10, 11 having transverse channels 12, 13 near one end to receive a lug 14 having a central hole 15. The mounting plate 4 carrying the electrical ancillaries 5, 6, 7 has one end 8 bent over and provided with a threaded hole 9. The lampholder body 2 carries a strap 16 in the bow of which is a screw 18 which can be passed through the hole 15 and screwed into the hole 9. A hole 19 in the body 2 for access to the screw 18 may be closed by a threaded plug 20 or may be used for the passage of the current supply wires. In a modification, the ribs are on a single surface of the support and the lug is a sliding fit on the turned-over end of the mounting plate. For securing the fitting to a ceiling or wall, the support 1 has a pair of opposed apertures between which extends a sleeve 35, Fig. 3, within which are a pair of sockets 36, 37 having mating screw threads 38, 39. The socket 37 is secured to the ceiling by a screw. Sealing rings 42, 43 are provided between the ends of the sockets 36, 37 and the support 1. The bodies of the lampholders may have grooves fitted with sealing rings in which the ends of the tubular support are seated.
