Abstract

915,923. Locking-rods. HARLOW, F. Sept. 25, 1961 [March 10, 1961], No. 8768/61. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XXIII, XXV and XXVIII] A device for locking a rod-like member 13 in the end of a tubular member 4 comprises a cup-shaped member 1 having a cylindrical wall 2 rotatable on an eccentric portion 3 of the outer wall of the tubular member, and having a base 11 with a clearance bore 12 equally eccentric to the wall 3 and a counterbore 15 to receive a freely-rotatable bush 16 adapted to be a close sliding fit on the rod-like member. The cupshaped member 1 may be retained on the eccentric portion 3 by a circlip 18, a threaded ring, or a threaded pin which co-operates to limit the rotational clamping movement of the member 1. The eccentric portion 3 may have a cylindrical skirt 6 secured to the end of the tubular member 4 by screwing, welding or crimping. The rod-like member may have a stopped longitudinal groove co-operating with a dimple in the tubular element to limit longitudinal movement and may be of other than circular cross-section as when used to clamp a hand tool into a handle.
