Abstract

573,382. Posts. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd., and SCOTT, A. Aug. 21, 1943, No. 13677. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (ii)] Telescopic posts or props are locked together by a tilting ring 13 surrounding the inner post member 11 and bearing on a rest 15 in a housing 12 which is screwed and welded to the other post member 10, the ring being tilted to bite into locking engagement with the post member 11 by a clamping screw 20 threaded in the cover 18 of the housing. A freely slidable pin 17 in the housing may be raised to free the locking ring on the withdrawal of the locking screw. The inner surface of the locking ring is formed as a narrow part 14 with sharply diverging surfaces so that contact with the inner post member is limited to the narrow portion of the ring.
