Abstract

1348329 Plug and socket fastenings VOLKSWAGENWERK AG 28 Sept 1971 [13 Oct 1970] 45083/71 Heading E2B [Also in Division F1] A releasable connection for a spark plug or ignition device, insertable in a wall of a cylinder 1, comprises a sleeve 7 screw threaded into the recess 6 and provided with a crosssection which cooperates with that of a portion 3 of the plug so that the plug may be inserted into the sleeve, until conical portion 15 engages a corresponding portion of the wall, and then rotated by a spannner acting on a separate portion 4, 5 so that the plug is retained by the sleeve. Sleeve 7 has lugs 9, 10, 11 defining axial recesses 12, 13, 14 and axially projecting lugs 17, 18. The plug has lugs 3 which cooperate with the sleeve to form a bayonet fitting. When the plug is inserted it is rotated relative to the sleeve until the lugs 3 engage those 17, 18 on the sleeve. Subsequent rotation of the plug causes the sleeve to be screwed into the recess thereby clamping the plug. A ring 19 or a pin which engages lugs 17, 18 are provided to prevent the sleeve being unscrewed when the plug is removed. The conical part 15 of the plug may be provided by a screw on member 16.
