Abstract
986,980. Screw-sockets. DIAMOND EXPANSION BOLT CO. Inc. June 15, 1962, No. 23229/62. Heading F2H. A one-piece anchorable screw-socket, e.g. of cast zinc alloy, has a tapered nut portion 22 with ribs 52 in positions corresponding to grooves 42 in a shell portion 20 into which the nut telescopes, Fig. 12, when the socket is anchored in its hole, i.e. when thin parts of a portion 24 interconnecting the nut and shell are fractured either by hammering the socket into its hole with the nut 22 resting on the hole bottom, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), or by drawing the nut forward by turning a bolt in it, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown). The ribs 52 cause splitting of the inner end 26 of the shell 20 with separation of the sides 56, Fig. 12, of the ends of the grooves 42 in that inner end. The grooves 42 may extend only in the tapered inner end 26 of the shell 20 but are shown extending throughout the shell bore 31 which may be slightly tapered to facilitate die-casting. The shell end 26, for gripping the hole receiving the socket, may bear annular tapered surfaces or ribs to give a serrated profile and the nut 22 may be tapered right to the end face, Fig. 13 (not shown), instead of having a cylindrical end as shown. Ribs 38, Fig. 6, extend from a depth-indicating ring 34, Fig. 4, to the outer face 29 of the socket, and over a thickened mouth edge 32 they are of triangular form, Figs. 1, 13 (not shown). They prevent rotation of the socket in its hole. Specification 365,864 is referred to.
