Abstract

915,565. Centrifugal separators. WESTFALIA SEPARATOR A.G. July 13, 1960 [Sept. 24, 1959], No. 24410/60. Class 23. [Also in Group XXIX] The formation of foam on the liquid in the outlet chamber 1 of a bowl 2 is prevented by keeping constant the distance h; a stationary skimmer 8 extends into the liquid. The rotation of the liquid is maintained by vanes 5, 6. Variation in the position of the liquid surface causes pressure variation in a duct 10, 11, 12, and this pressure variation operates the valve shown in Fig. 2 which is connected at an inlet 15 to the outlet channel 7 in the skimmer. The duct is connected to a valve chamber 13 so that the pressure variations move a piston 24 to result in the movement of a piston 18 in a valve chamber 17 to alter the cross-section of an annulus 16 between the inlet 15 and the valve outlet (not shown). The liquid pressure in the duct may be used to operate a pneumatically controlled valve.
