Air rising up a tower 7, 8 takes tobacco projected across the air stream to an air separator 10, 11 from which the tobacco is extracted at 25, 26, sand mixed with the tobacco falling down the tower. The tower is transparent to aid in adjusting air flow by means of a valve 28, 29 in the air separator outlet. Specification 924,060 is referred to.
